Sweet Penny Needs Our Help
Adorable Penny got lucky when she arrived at the shelter and was taken into foster care by the Friends of the Burlington County Animal Shelter. This 6-month old female pit mix was quite emaciated, in need of fluids, and sickly. She had been surrendered because her owner, despite attempting to get her veterinary care, was unable to afford the medical bills that would be incurred. Shelter staff asked the Friends to help. Penny had further medical testing at Red Bank Animal Hospital. It was touch and go for a while; eventually she was diagnosed as suffering from an intestinal intussusception (a condition in which one segment of intestine "telescopes" inside of another, causing a blockage). Penny had emergency surgery to repair a section of the intestine and tack it into place. Hopefully that will prevent further issues. Again, Penny got lucky as it was feared she would not make it through surgery due to her fragile condition. Despite all she has been through, Penny is a very sweet girl. She is human and dog friendly as well as extremely lucky. Pending medical clearance, she will be going home with a foster with the intent to adopt. Will you help us cover the costs of her care and ensure that her luck does not turn bad?
