TNVR stands for Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return. It is a humane solution that reduces the number of cats who live outdoors and involves:

  • Trapping stray and feral cats
  • Spaying or neutering to prevent future litters
  • Vaccinating for rabies and distemper (if available)
  • Tipping their left ear to identify cats who have already been fixed
  • Returning cats to where they were trapped
  • Relocating cats to a colony where they can be managed and monitored (subject to availability and contributions to future care)

Friends' TNR program is driven by our Mission to eliminate the euthanasia of homeless cats at the Burlington County Animal Shelter by 2025. With the help from Friends' volunteers, the shelter is at no-kill status for dogs and we are working towards a no-kill status for cats. In 2023, we were fortunate to be gifted a building that will serve as an adoption and TNVR recovery center, a site for community engagement opportunities and, eventually, a low-cost spay/neuter clinic. Your contributions of $50 or $30* per cat to the TNVR program will make a difference towards improving the lives of neighborhood cats.
